# Materials

## Blender

Materials are pre-built node groups with basic exposed parameters, registered as assets and ready to use directly from the Asset Browser.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Open the **Asset Browser** panel (you can split your viewport and change one panel to Asset Browser).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the Asset Browser header, change the library dropdown from *Current File* to **ZenShaders Materials** (or however you named it during install).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Browse the categories and subcategories to find the material you want.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Drag and drop** the material directly onto your object in the **3D Viewport** to apply it.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
The material will be appended into your current file and applied to the object automatically.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
To adjust the material, select your object, open the **Material Properties** panel or the **Shader Editor**, and tweak the exposed node group parameters.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Substance Painter

Materials are PBR texture based materials in `.sbsar` format with basic adjustable parameters.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
After importing, go to the **Shelf** and select the **Materials** category.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Browse to find your ZenShaders material.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the **Layers** panel, add a new **Fill Layer** or use an existing layer.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Drag and drop** the material from the Shelf onto the layer stack or directly onto your model.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Adjust the material's parameters in the **Properties** panel on the right.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://zenshaders.gitbook.io/zenshaders-docs/how-to-use/materials.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
