# Textures

## Blender

Textures are mask assets in PNG 4K format, packaged as node groups and registered in the Asset Browser. They are ready to plug into any material as masks or procedural inputs.

**How to use:**

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Open the Asset Browser and select the ZenShaders Textures library.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Find the texture mask you want and drag and drop it into your Shader Editor node graph.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
The node group will be appended into your file and can be connected to any image input.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Substance Painter

ZenShaders textures for Substance Painter are configured as **textures** in `.sbsar` format. They can be used inside layer masks or any image input, like a brush alpha.

**How to use:**

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**After importing, find the texture in the Shelf under the Textures category.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**In the Layers panel, add a Fill Layer and then add a black mask to it.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**With the mask selected, click Add Fill and choose the texture from the list.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Adjust the texture parameters in the Properties panel.**
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://zenshaders.gitbook.io/zenshaders-docs/how-to-use/textures.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
